Department of Pathology in ILBS is equipped with state-of-the-art equipments and has dedicated motivated, qualified doctors and technical staff, who work in close coordination with the clinicians to provide superior quality service to the patients. Histopathology and cytopathology divisions provide opinions on all kinds hepato-biliary-pancreatic cases including tumours and cancers, infections and inflammations. USG- & CT-Guided FNA, imprint and squash preparation, tumour marker analysis, frozen section examination & immunohistochemistry facilities are available.

Pathology laboratory is actively involved in research and provide efficient and quality service to the researchers. The research interests of the department are directed towards hepatic steatosis & insulin resistance in chronic viral hepatitis, apoptotic death pathways in liver, angiogenesis & fibrosis in liver, immunohistochemical & molecular studies in HCC, and stem cell biology. Future research projects will also be aimed to utilize explant livers to study disease pathogenesis and molecular pathways

Pathology department also organizes case conferences, seminars, symposia, training programs and teaching courses of a specialized nature in the field of hepato-biliary sciences.
