The Hematology Department of ILBS is a holistic department which caters to patient care, laboratory services and clinical research. It is a team of dedicated faculty and motivated technical staff equipped with state-of-the-art equipments. Patient care includes clinical consultations for all hematological complications in liver disease patients. Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy are routinely done whenever indicated. The Hematology laboratory functions 24 hours a day providing both routine and emergency lab services and strives to maintain the highest standard of quality. The lab is equipped with high-ended fully automated cell counters (Coulter Hmx & CoulterAcT5 diff AL) for carrying out routine hematological investigation such as hemoglobin, total and differential leukocyte counts, platelet counts, red cell indices etc., accurately. The lab provides a complete range of hemolytic bench tests, and is equipped with the latest Bio-Rad Variant II Hb testing system for hemoglobinopathy/thalassemia diagnosis. The Coagulation lab which is the hub of activity in liver disease has both fully automated (SysmexCA1500) and semi-automated (Diagnostica Stago) coagulation analyzers and ELISA facilty. In addition, the coagulation lab strives to become a pillar in hemostasis research in liver disease and is in the process of adding a gamut of new equipments and research tools.
