Neurology

The neurology services at ILBS are dedicated to providing expertise in management of neurological diseases to the community at large and the much needed support in the management of liver patients with various neurological involvements in particular.

The specialist service aims to cater to common neurological problems like headache, neuropathy, epilepsy, stroke, movement disorders, muscle diseases etc. Apart from specialist care and prescription, the institute has the facility to carry out all the necessary investigations. All the laboratory tests as well as most advanced neuro imaging facilities are available.

Besides, a video EEG (electroencephalogram) and other EPS (Electro physiological Studies, which include nerve conduction studies, electromyography (EMG), evoked potentials) laboratory is underway to provide the much needed comprehensive diagnostic evaluation. We have a 64 channel EEG with video monitoring. EEGs are done with special montages wherever indicated (EOG, submental, EMG), brain mapping and trends detection. The 10 channel system is available for nerve conduction, EMG studies, facial nerve conduction, blink reflexes, repetitive nerve stimulation test, visual evoked responses, brain stem evoked responses, and somato-sensory evoked responses.

These facilities would be of immense benefit for not only the patients who are admitted, but also for outdoor patients. For patients with early hepatic encephalopathy, there is CFF (critical flicker frequency) facility.

For indoor patients, the neurologist is available on regular basis for consultation. It is also required for critically ill patients in the ICU and patients undergoing transplantation.

Services offered:

  • Indoor consultations
  • Neuropsychometric tests for assessment of MHE including CFF
  • Neurophysiology tests – NCV, EMG, VEEG, EP
  • Neuroimaging for all neurological conditions and emergencies
