The Department of Research at ILBS has been established to promote basic, translational and clinical research in the area of hepatobiliary sciences. The main research areas in the basic research include, but not limited to, viral hepatitis, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, alcoholic steatohepatitis, and obesity induced hepatitis. This department has been able to obtain several grants from both national and international funding agencies. Another major thrust of the department is to develop PCR-based assays for several liver diseases at very low cost, which can be utilized for diagnostic tests. The department is also involved in conducting clinical trials to analyze the efficiency of new antiviral drugs and combined therapies of antiviral drugs with immune modulators. In order to promote exchange of ideas and foster close working relationship with the prestigious institutes and departments, this department has already entered into joint collaborations within and outside India.

The Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) has been established by the Govt. of the National Capital Territory Region of Delhi as an autonomous Institute, under the Societies act. The mission of the Institute is to become a dedicated international centre of excellence for the diagnosis, management and advanced training and research in the field of Liver and Biliary diseases.

CSIR/ICMR/DBT /NET/GATE qualified candidates will be given preference. Candidates who do not have qualified these exams and if selected will be given stipend of Rs 12000/- + HRA per month as per the Institute policy.
