Nephrology
The Nephrology Department delivers comprehensive clinical care to individuals grappling with diverse kidney ailments. This encompasses patients undergoing chronic dialysis therapy or facing acute kidney injury. Furthermore, our services extend to providing kidney replacement therapy, including various modalities of slow continuous therapies and liver dialysis, for critically ill patients in the medical and surgical ICUs. Within our facilities, we feature specialized inpatient nephrology wards staffed with highly trained nurses. Our outpatient dialysis unit boasts cutting-edge dialysis machines and a state-of-the-art reverse osmosis water purification system.
Our accomplished faculty oversees an array of nephrology procedures, ranging from native and transplant kidney biopsies to the insertion of temporary and permanent dialysis catheters, including peritoneal dialysis catheters. The department hosts a bustling nephrology and transplant clinic, with a unique Liver-Kidney clinic—a singular offering in the country for individuals dealing with both liver and kidney diseases.
The department's kidney transplant program is rapidly expanding, having successfully completed more than 300 kidney transplants, encompassing living donor, cadaveric, renal transplants in HIV-positive patients, and ABO incompatible kidney transplants. Specialized transplant surgeries, such as paired kidney donation (kidney donor swap) for blood group incompatible patients, have also been undertaken.
Demonstrating our commitment to knowledge dissemination, the department regularly presents papers, abstracts, and posters at major international and national nephrology conferences. Engaging with the community, we organize a free kidney checkup camp annually in March to coincide with World Kidney Day. Additionally, the department takes pride in raising awareness about kidney diseases through public lectures, print media, and appearances on radio and television.
