Nephrology
The department of nephrology provides medical care to the patients who suffer from the disorders of kidney. It includes patient on chronic dialysis therapy or those who suffer from acute kidney failure. In addition, we provide renal replacement to the critically sick patients in the medical and surgical ICU’s. We have an 20-bedded inpatient nephrology ward with dedicated nephrology nurses. Our outpatient dialysis unit is well equipped with state of the art dialysis machines and reverses osmosis water purification system. The faculty is capable of performing all nephrology procedures including native and transplant kidney biopsies, temporary and permanent dialysis catheter and peritoneal dialysis catheters. The department runs a busy nephrology and transplant clinic for nephrology care. In addition, we have a dedicated Liver-Kidney clinic, perhaps the only one of its kind in the country for patients with combined liver and kidney diseases.
We have a rapidly growing kidney transplant program and have performed 158 kidney transplants including living donor, cadaveric and renal transplant in HIV positive patients. We recently started performing the kidney swap for blood group incompatible patients. We have regularly presented papers,abstracts and posters in major international and national nephrology conferences.The department of Nephrology regularly organizes free kidney camp every year in the month of March to celebrate world kidney day. The Department also takes prides in spreading about the awareness of kidney disease by media by regularly delivering lectures on Delhi Doordarshan.

Name of the activity: World Kidney day celebration
Date: March 8, 2018
Description:
- Department of Nephrology like every year celebrated “World Kidney Day” on 8th March 2018 with idea of promoting and spreading awareness about kidney disease in women and advocating Organ Donation. A large number of health care workers, media houses, general public, patients and their relatives attended this function. A stage drama on “Awareness of kidney health” was performed by the students of nursing college, ILBS. Kidney donors and patients on dialysis shared their experiences in the program.

Description:
- Department of Nephrology successfully organized the First National Update on Nephrology and Renal Transplant with a daylong academic program attended by faculty and students from entire country. A total of 100 delegates including the International Society of Nephrology President Elect, Dr Vivekananda Jha attended the program and delivered an Oration.
Name of the activity: Nephro-QUIZ - Inter institutional nephrology based quiz competition
Description:
- An inter institutional nephrology quiz competition was organized on 4th Nov 2018 which was attended by the PG students of all the premier institutes of North India. A total of six teams participated including AIIMS, PGI, Chandigarh and RML Hospital, Delhi.
