SECOND BATCH GRADUATES FROM INDIA’S FIRST LIVER UNIVERSITY
New Delhi; 14th January 2015: The Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari inaugurated the fifth Foundation Day cum 2nd Convocation Ceremony at Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences at Vasant Kunj. The function was also attended by Principal Secy (Fin) for GNCTD Sh. S. N. Sahai, Principal Secy (Health) Sh. S. C. L. Das and other officials of Delhi government and ILBS.
On this occasion the Hon’ble VP also released a mobile app called “iLap ” developed by the doctors at ILBS. The app is freely available online in Google Play store. It will help the patient in diagnosis of liver diseases, provide information on the causes of liver disease and answer doubts in a patients mind regarding liver transplantation. The purpose of this app is to provide the patient and his family with information regarding the disease he is suffering from, how to follow up in OPD, what tests to be done on follow up and give the doctors at ILBS a constant feedback about the treatment - providing a personalized touch and care.
23 candidates were admitted to various degrees awarded by the Deemed University including DM (Hepatology) and MCh (HPB Surgery) and post doctoral courses in Nephrology and Renal Transplantation, Radiology and Interventional Radiology and Transplant Anesthesia. Sh. Sahai presented the institute’s Annual Report to a packed house which included luminaries, dignitaries, faculty of ILBS, the students and their families.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Hon’ble Vice President of India Sh M. Hamid Ansari said that ILBS should strive to reach out to as many people as possible and provide affordable healthcare to the common public. He complimented ILBS on being a role model for the entire country and said that others in the government sector should emulate their working. He also stressed the need for increasing the number of seats in such specialized courses like Hepatology, HPB Surgery etc.
Dr Sarin, Director said that ILBS saw more than seventy two thousand patients in 2014, and also crossed one hundred and seventy transplants last year. Till date ILBS has conducted a total of 177 liver and close to 40 kidney transplants. He complimented his team on the successful launch of the liver app and urged the public to use it and send in their reactions to the management.
