“STANDING TALL – YEAR AFTER YEAR”
The Hon’ble Vice President of India Sh. M Hamid Ansari
inaugurated the 3rd Foundation Day event here at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences
in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of NCT of Delhi Smt. Sheila Dikshit and
other distinguished officials of Delhi Government and ILBS. The event, which marks the
completion of three years of the institute, was observed on Monday, 14th January 2013 at
the institute premises from 11:30 AM onwards.
ILBS, an autonomous society under the GNCT of Delhi, has completed three years as a
fully functional 155 bedded super specialty hospital catering especially to liver and biliary
patients and allied specialties. The hospital is the first government super specialty hospital
in the country to receive the prestigious NABH Accreditation. It is also the only
government hospital in the civilian setup to be successfully performing liver transplants. So
far the hospital has performed over 65 liver transplants, which include living donor as well
as deceased donor transplants. This year the hospital also started its Kidney transplantation
program.
The institute happens to be the first liver university in Asia and is running a successful post
graduate teaching program which admits over 20 students in various specialties including
Hepatology, Hepato Biliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation, Nephrology and Renal
Transplantation, Radiology and Interventional Radiology and Transplant Anesthesia.
ILBS has been hailed by media houses in the past as a state-of-art yet affordable hospital
for ailments of liver, pancreas and kidneys. Many cases of chronic liver disease, alcoholic
liver disease, upper GI bleeding, Hepatitis B and C, and kidney diseases are treated here. In
the short span of three years the hospital has come to be recognized as a referral center of
repute, running at over 90 percent occupancy.
Hon’ble Vice President of India Sh. M Hamid Ansari released the institute’s third
Annual Report. Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized the importance of keeping
healthcare affordable and ensuring accessibility of healthcare to the masses, especially the
underprivileged. He lauded the institute for its efforts in keeping its services affordable.
On this occasion the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi Smt Sheila Dikshit inaugurated
the doctor’s hostel called “Adhyayan” for enabling resident doctors to stay on campus
while working at the institute. The Hon’ble Chief Minister also inaugurated the three
storied cafeteria complex “Tripti” and dedicated it to the people.
Speaking on this occasion Dr SK Sarin, Padma Bhushan, Director of ILBS gave
complete credit of the institutes achievements to ‘Team ILBS’ and said, “We want to assure
everyone that NABH accredited ILBS would strive towards betterment and is sincerely
committed to the cause of patient safety and quality of patient care. We do hope that the
Team ILBS would be able to fulfill the aspirations of the patients, medical fraternity and the
people of the country in near future.”
