Nephrology
The Nephrology Department delivers comprehensive care across the full spectrum of kidney diseases, supporting both acute and chronic patient needs. Services include chronic dialysis, acute kidney injury management, and advanced kidney replacement therapies such as slow continuous modalities and liver dialysis for critically ill patients in intensive care settings. The department operates specialized inpatient nephrology wards staffed by skilled nurses, alongside an outpatient dialysis unit equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a high-grade reverse osmosis water purification system.
Our faculty performs a wide range of nephrology procedures, including native and transplant kidney biopsies and the placement of temporary, permanent, and peritoneal dialysis catheters. The department also runs a high-volume nephrology and transplant clinic, featuring the nation's only dedicated Liver Kidney Clinic.
The kidney transplant program is rapidly expanding, with 341 successful transplants completed to date. These include living donor, cadaveric, HIV-positive, and ABO-incompatible transplants, as well as specialized paired kidney donations for blood group incompatible recipients.
A strong commitment to academic advancement and community engagement defines the department's mission. Faculty members consistently present research at major national and international nephrology conferences. Community initiatives include an annual free kidney check-up camp aligned with World Kidney Day and public awareness efforts through lectures, media outreach, and partnerships with broadcast and print platforms.
