ACHIEVEMENTS OF BIOCHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT AT ILBS
Clinical Biochemistry is central to diagnostics with thousands of tests (Total tests in January-June, 2023 is 3,62,951 and Total tests done from January-December 2022 is 687,318)performed daily to guide patient’s therapy. Our lab includes testing for general chemistries ,specific proteins, hormones, vitamins, tumor markers ,therapeutic drug monitoring ,dynamic LFT, immunoglobulins, tests for antibodies of autoimmune diseases and point-of-care testing (ABG/STAT creatinine /Glucometer) and other tests for research. Our goal is to give the right result at the right time, on the right specimen, from the right patient with right result interpretation based on correct reference data, and at the right price. New services & facilities added to the department in 2022-23 are: New tests-Non-esterified fatty acid(NEFA),Ketone bodies,NF-kB,S1P,Myostatin,Glypican-3,Adiponectin, IL-10,Autoimmune liver profile ,Automated urine NGAL,EGFR,FIB-4 score, APRI score, Apo-A, Apo-B, Lp(a),Angiopoetin-2,Hepatocyte growth factor(HGF),Stromal derived factor(SDF-1),Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),Granulocyte stimulating factor(G-CSF),Insulin like growth factor(IGF),NAD/NADH, Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) test and Inhalant allergen profile. Also there are some rare tests like the Indocyanine green retention test and Ethyl glucuronide test for detecting alcohol abuse. New Facility of new biochemistry lab. New instruments-ELISA reader (Genex),IMMUNOASSAY analyser (Atellica from Siemens). Quality Control Symposium was held in July,2022, which was first of its kind at ILBS. A PDCC in Advanced Clinical Biochemistry Course was introduced in 2021. A project on clinical evaluation of PIVKA-II as a biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma in the Indian population was completed in 2022 and is due for publication. Have been playing an instrumental role in various research and public health projects for screening of liver disease in the population eg. the” Healthy Liver Healthy Delhi”project. Observer ship training to doctors and internship training for M.Tech, B.Tech and MLT course students and resident doctors is also given in this department. Teaching of technicians and nurses/MSc. nursing students is also done. In future the department proposes to acquire a state of the art equipment-LC-MS in order to make the Biochemistry lab at ILBS an Advanced Centre for Clinical Biochemistry and Metabolic diseases in Delhi. There are some publications from the department in international journals in relation to liver and kidney diseases. The lab is NABL and NABH accredited. It has also successfully under gone Kaya Kalp and Project Prakash audits. |
