Dr Anupam kumar has graduated from All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) , New Delhi in December 2006. He worked as postdoctoral fellow in UT MD Anderson Cancer Centre Huston Texas, USA from March 2007 to June 2011 before he Joined ILBS as Senior fellow in September 2011 and served as instructor from February 2012 to December 2012 and Assistant professor from December 2012 to June 2018. Currently He is working as Associate professor since June 2018 and heading the centre of excellence program for hepatic regenerative medicine. Major interest of his Group is to understand the mechanism of impairment of liver regeneration in Liver failure. Developing novel and effective regenerative medicine based therapy to rescue liver regeneration and repair in liver failure , Liver tissue engineering and Development of  bio-artificial Liver as an extra/intra corporal support for patient with Liver failure.

Research Int

The laboratory of Regenerative medicine is actively involved in understanding molecular and cellular basis of hepatic regeneration in various liver diseases. Our major focus is to understand the cross talk of hepatic microenvironment and nature and activation of hepatic stem cells in various end stage liver disease to understand the impairment of hepatic regeneration in liver failure. We are also developing an cellular and non cellular based therapeutic protocol for the management of end stage liver disease. Various clinical and pre-clinical studies have shown the potential contribution of bone marrow derived stem and progenitor cells in hepatic regeneration. Why this support is lost or impaired during the course of development of liver disease is not yet known. A part of our group is also involved in understanding the role of liver microenvironment in bone marrow response. In collaboration with IIT Kanpur our group is developing an bio-artificial Liver as an extra corporal support for patient with end stage liver disease.

Ongoing Project:

  1. Study the role of hepatic microenvironment in activation and Liver Lineage Maturation of   hepatic stem cells in acute-on-chronic liver failure (DBT funded)
  2. Effect Of Macrophages In Engraftment And Colonization Of Human Es / Ips Cells Derived Hepatocyte/ Hepatic Progenitor Cells (ICMR funded)
  3. To Study The Cellular Mechansims Of G-Csf And Erythropoeitin  On Liver Regeneration In Patients With Decompensated liver Cirrhosis  (DLD) (UKIERI funded).
