Academics at ILBS: Milestones Reached

The Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) has been established by the Government of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi as an Autonomous Super-speciality Institute, under the Societies Registration Act - 1860, New Delhi. The Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences has been granted Deemed-to-be-University status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 under de-novo category through the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.   ILBS is a ‘de-novo institute with a promise for excellence’ in Hepatobiliary Medicine, Surgery and Research and is a unique institute that is dedicated to patient management, teaching and research. The institute and its vision were conceived by eminent academicians and visionaries to provide world-class training and teaching, including excellent patient care and cutting-edge research for curing liver and biliary diseases. All activities of the university have been directed towards this vision.

ILBS offers training programs for super-specialties related to Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic Sciences through the Post-Doctoral 3 year courses: DM in Hepatology, Paediatric Hepatology, Organ Transplant Anaesthesia and Critical Care; and M.Ch. in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery. These degree programmes are duly approved by the Medical Council of India. Apart from these degree courses, students are being trained in postdoctoral certificate courses which are of a year’s duration. They are being offered in almost all liver related specialities running under various departments. There is a provision of several short-term training programs and observer-ship programs for training the faculty and students of other institutes. This would help in improving the understanding and skills in the liver related subjects. Finally at ILBS, there is a full-fledged department of Research which is running a PhD course with an uptake of 05 students. The department has advanced labs pertaining to the various aspects of the field of Hepatology e.g. Flowcytometry lab, Genomics & Metabolomics lab, Senescence and Regeneration lab.
