Hello, I am Sunita Sud, a 55 yrs old school teacher. I had a normal healthy living without any illness, until June 2013 last year, I noticed a small swelling on the side of my neck. I visited a private hospital where they did FNAC which showed inconclusive result. A biopsy was done and it showed features of being a tubercular swelling. Antitubercular therapy was started but after taking the medicines for one month, I started having itching and later, rashes appeared on my body.
My father was diagnosed with Acute Liver Cirrhosis on around March 2012 in a private hospital. With little hope, we thought of consulting doctors in ILBS. Upon consultation with Dr. Vikram Bhatia, my father was advised for a liver transplant surgery. We were referred to Dr. V. Pamecha in the surgery team (the Liver Transplant head and main surgeon) by Dr. Vikram Bhatia. Dr. V. Pamecha and his surgery team told us about the details of the transplant.
Hi friends! Its me Reema Sabharwal; 23 years old , a liver transplant patient. I am here to share my experience before and after transplant . There comes a darastic change in life after the surgery. Now, I feel like I am living a new life in a new world.
My story began when my child was born. At that time he had a raised bilirubin. On the second day, his bilirubin decreased, and we were told that this would improve and that the baby should continue to be fed by the mother. Our child was discharged and at home the baby continued to have jaundice and a very dark yellow urine. This continued for three months. Suddenly one day we noticed that the child had huge black patches all over his body and he looked scary.
I was a student preparing for my CAT exams at Dehradun when my family suddenly called one day to inform me that my father was being admitted at a hospital in Gorakhpur. I reached home to find my father in a sorry state. He had a swollen stomach, which was understandably very uncomfortable. On making enquiries with Papa’s consultant, I was told he had a chronic liver disease that required further management at a higher center, which was Lucknow. Papa was diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the Liver and was prescribed medication and certain investigations. On followup after 15 days, the reports confirmed that Papa was Hepatitis C positive with a damaged liver and a confirmed need for a Liver Transplant.
