Under his leadership, department has become high volume center for non-transplant hepato- pancreato- biliary surgery. In a short duration, ILBS have now become one of the leading referral center for Complex HPB surgery and have one of the largest experience liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma, hilar cholangiocarcinoma, pancreatic and gallbladder cancer surgery in the country with outcomes at par with best in the world. ILBS is also now a top referral center for complex bile duct injuries as well.

Dr Archana Rastogi is Additional
Professor in Pathology. She has done MD, DNB and Post-Doctoral Certified Course in Pathology, and has been trained in prestigious supersuperspeciality
institutes in India. She is actively involved in research and diagnostic histopathology & cytopathology work in hepato-pancreato-biliary diseases
and Gastro-Intestinal Pathology for last 15 years and had successfully runned the training (PDCC Hepatopathology) program for the last six years.
Renal Pathology including transplant Pathology, is a special interest area & have done PDCC (Renal pathology), ANIO-CNC Clinical Nephropathology
1 year certified Course in 2016 & have experience of 4 years at SGPGI, Lucknow in the field.
She has 126 publications in indexed journals, mainly in the field of HPB and GI Pathology and has presented her work in several International and National Conferences. She has set up and standardized all the procedures in Histopathology and Cytopathology laboratories of ILBS, Delhi. She is a member of APASL-ACLF consensus group. Several important academic activities have been started by her in ILBS- Post Doctoral Certified Course (Hepatopathology), Pathology Oration and Hepatopathology Updates, monthly CPCs. She has served as Member Secretrary of Institute’s ethics committee for two years & as member of Liver & kidney transplantation (external & internal) authorization for more than 6 years. Presently serving as Associate Dean of ILBS, along with her primary Pathology work. Her present research work is mainly related to liver failure, Liver Cancers and allograft rejection.

The Research and Development Cell was settled for the ease of operations and to facilitate the research studies. A single functional setup was required
in the institute as the work load on the administrative operation was having an adverse effect on the swift work flow needed in the academic research.
It was also endorsed by the UGC as a part of National Education Policy.
The aim is to make an obstruction free-single functional unit exclusively for academic research. The RDC would help to attain transparent and swift management processes for the funded projects.

Dr. Ekta Gupta at present Professor Virology, did her MD Microbiology from KGMC Lucknow, Senior Residency from AIIMS, New Delhi and Senior Research Associateship in Clinical Virology from AIIMS. She is FRC Path from Royal College of London. She was granted Gold Medal for her MD. She did post MD research work on Dengue virus for which she was awarded with “The Best Scientist Award” for outstanding contribution in clinical research by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)”. Her major research interests are in Hepatitis Viruses, Transplant viruses, Respiratory viruses and Dengue virus.
Have more than 140 scientific publications in indexed National & International Journals and author of 15 chapters in books. She is the Nodal officer for
WHO CC and COVID-19 testing at ILBS. She is actively involved in organizing various vaccinations and screening camps for viral hepatitis in the community.
She is the Chairman of the Institutes Biosafety Committee and active member in many other Institutional and outside the Institute Committees. She has to her
credit several extramural research grants both at National and International level. She has been instrumental in initiation of a unique PDCC course in
Hepato-virology and Transplant Virology at ILBS for MD Microbiology students.She is also a part of Technical resource person in the National
Viral Hepatitis Control Program in India and also State Viral Hepatitis Control Program, Delhi. Team leader for the conduction of 5th and 6th
serosurveys done in the Delhi State for COVID-19 IgG antibody prevalence and faculty In charge for COVID -19 genome sequencing surveillance activities.

‘Sports builds character; it teaches you to play by rules; it teaches you what it feels like to win and lose; it teaches you about life’
Life at a medical institute can often become monotonous and medical professionals are among those with worst work-life balance. To break this monotonous routine, we conceived and conducted the first ever ‘ILBS Sports Meet’ in January 2019. The event witnessed an unprecedented enthusiastic participation from all cadres including faculty, students (residents), nursing staff, administrative staff as well as other paramedics. It brought everyone together on a common platform and increased bonhomie among people from various cadres. Thereafter, we planned to make the event an annual affair and thus conducted the 2nd Annual ILBS Sports Meet in January 2021. More than 200 staff and students participated in these events enthusiastically and celebrated their teams’ victories. The institute witnessed a vibrant atmosphere with colour coded jerseys during the meet and awards being given on the foundation day. The oldest and the youngest participated with equal enthusiasm.
Although Covid crippled the events in 2021 & 2022, we have planned to renew the activities from January 2023. The basic aim of conducting the sports meet is to impress upon the employees the benefits of physical activity to maintain physical, mental, emotional and social well being. ILBS is equipped with most of the essential sports facilities and equipments for its employees. There is a multi-purpose gymnasium equipped with the latest equipments and gadgets in the new residents block. There is an outdoor badminton court which is regularly utilised by the hostel inmates as well as other staff. Both the residential blocks have separate table-tennis tables with bats and balls. These hostels also have separate facilities for carom in each of the facility. There is a makeshift cricket ground and cricket kits are made available to the employees on request. I would invite everyone including students, residents, faculty, nurses and other staff to utilise the facilities. In future, our endeavour would be to expand these facilities and encourage everyone to play and have fun.
